Falcon recently installed 5 new timber-look sliding box sash windows in a heritage property in South Wales. Here’s some more information about the project.
A period property needing a cost-effective traditional look
The customer in this particular project owned a period stone cottage in South Wales. They were looking to install a new sash window that could match the appearance of similar authentic timber sliding box sash windows in the property. The customer wanted to keep the traditional look and feel of the property but minimise cost in the process. They approached Falcon to complete the work after hearing about the high standard of our installations.
What we did
We wasted no time in getting to work on the project. We installed multi-chambered uPVC window frames with high-quality double glazing. This allowed the new sash window to achieve an A energy rating and achieve the highest levels of thermal and acoustic insulation.
In order to replicate the timber Georgian bars of a traditional timber sliding box sash window, we applied uPVC astragal bars to the outside panes of the glazing. These were in a woodgrain foil so that they matched the overall aesthetic of the building and the property.
Windows like these are useful for recreating or even adding, a traditional look to their home. They are considered so aesthetically authentic that we have also installed these in conservation areas in place of traditional sliding box sash windows.
Overall, the total price for replacing five windows in the style was £2,450, in keeping with the customer’s desire to minimise cost.
The finished result
The clients were very happy with the results. They commented: “The staff were all friendly, courteous and polite at all times. The installers worked extremely hard and cleared up the debris well.” and rated us as 5 out of 5 in all areas of performance. Another satisfied customer!
