With the Bridgend region currently undergoing something of a renaissance in terms of investment, the future of the region is starting to look bright. Here are some of the latest building projects planned for the region that could help to revitalise the area even more.
Bridgend: beginning to blossom once more
Admittedly, Bridgend has suffered from lots of problems over the last few decades.. What’s important is that the area is beginning to recover. We believe that Bridgend is a fantastic place in which to live and work, and that the region is now finally beginning to blossom after many hard winters of decay. Here’s a few housing projects currently in development that will help to restore Bridgend to its former glory.
600 new homes near Bridgend
In April 2015, contracts were exchanged between the Welsh Government and Persimmon Homes to build 600 more new homes on a housing development site at Parc Derwen, in Coity. The 98 acre development will see a further 600 homes added to the 1,500 already approved at the site. 450 of these have already been built. With the demand for high quality, affordable housing at an all-time high, this development is incredibly welcome in the Bridgend region.
The Rhiw Gateway: approved by councillors
On the 1st May 2015, Bridgend councillors approved a scheme that has the potential to transform the centre of Bridgend. The ambitious ‘Rhiw Gateway’ scheme will see an integrated development of a £9m apartment complex, shops and a car park built on the current site of Bridgend town centre. The development will also provide much needed social housing for the area.
The Rhiw Gateway scheme is being funded by the Welsh Government, Coastal Housing Group and Bridgend County Borough Council and it’s hoped that it will be able to restore the health of the high street which has suffered unfair competition from out of town retail parks in recent years.
