Condensation creeping in? Falcon Installations’ quick fixes for South Wales windows are the answer

In the chilly climes of South Wales, questions about condensation from Falcon customers always increase as we head into winter.  While condensation isn’t uncommon, if left untreated, it can lead to mould, dampness, and a whole host of health problems.

In this blog, we’ll explore condensation, its impact on your home, and how our local South Wales windows can ensure your comfort this winter.

What’s causing my condensation?

Condensation occurs when warm, moist air meets cooler surfaces, causing the moisture to turn into droplets of water. Windows are prime spots for condensation to form, especially during the colder months.

The consequences of condensation

Condensation not only affects the clarity of your view but can also lead to more serious issues like mould and mildew growth – which can trigger nasal congestion, respiratory infections and worsen asthma and allergies. It can also highlight a leak in your window seals, reducing their energy efficiency and increasing your heating bills!

Condensation quick fixes: Ventilation, humidity and heating

A golden rule to remember is – ventilation reduces condensation. Increase airflow in your home by installing trickle vents, opening windows for 30-60 minutes throughout the winter months, using extractor fans in kitchens and bathrooms where moisture builds up most, and considering a dehumidifier.

Make sure any heating or cooling systems in your home are properly maintained, and check the seal ducts of these systems, to balance temperature.

Insulated curtains or blinds can also help combat condensation, as can air-drying clothes in well-ventilated spaces and removing any indoor plants that may be contributing to levels of dampness and condensation in a room.

Although all these quick fixes may help reduce levels of condensation in your home, it is unlikely to solve the problem of condensation on old, inefficient windows.

How to combat condensation with Falcon Installations’ South Wales windows

Our windows come with double glazing as standard, which can be upgraded to triple glazing for added insulation and energy efficiency. Double and triple glazing ensure your windows remain at a consistent temperature, minimising the risk of condensation. By creating a barrier between the inside and outside temperatures, our windows significantly reduce the formation of moisture on the glass, keeping your home dry and comfortable.

All our windows come with trickle vents as standard, which is considered a vital part in combatting condensation by allowing moisture in the air inside to naturally escape the property. This is supported by a recent change in Building Regulations that require all replacement windows to have trickle vents installed.

As well as this, uPVC is a non-porous material, meaning it doesn’t absorb moisture. This quality makes our uPVC windows highly resistant to condensation and a great option for damp homes. By eliminating the possibility of water absorption, these windows reduce the growth of mould and mildew, ensuring a healthier indoor environment for you and your family.

Alongside our products, Falcon’s award-winning and family-run team are also specialised in window installation, meaning that tight seals and precision fitting are our thing. By preventing draughts and ensuring airtight closures, our finished window projects reduce the chance of warm, humid air meeting cold surfaces – a common cause of condensation.
