How to Spruce Up Your Windows for Christmas

Forget your Christmas tree this year, it’s all about your windows!

They have been a real focus in 2020, whether that’s been putting a rainbow on show to support the NHS or displaying all your spooky Halloween decorations. The Poppy Appeal has also brought out a picture you can put in your front window this year that you could download from the British Legion website and donate. But after that, we can start getting ready for Christmas!

Staying connected

This Christmas is going to be one like no other. There may be reductions in who can come in, so you want your home to be as fun, festive and welcoming as possible for friends and family nipping round to drop off presents wishing you well. Having that festive cheer at the forefront of your home spreads that Christmas joy. You want to feel connected to those you can’t be close to – spreading the love and joy by sprucing up your window is the perfect way to get your loved ones involved. You could even have a competition to see who can decorate their house the best! We think it’s the perfect chance to be more creative than ever this Christmas.

Sparkly lights

Twinkling lights are always a great idea around Christmas time. We all love walking round and looking for the most extravagantly decorated home, so why not spruce up your windows? They look good on the inside too, especially with a cheesy Christmas film on in the background, the fire crackling away and the addition of some twinkly lights just adds to the cosiness of this time of year.

Festive foliage

Having a wreath on your door is a classic, but have you ever thought of adding some festive foliage and evergreen plants to your window as something a little different this year. Plants are very popular year, so adding a bauble, lights or a star will add to festive feel of your home.

Let it snow

Everyone wishes for a white Christmas, so to make sure you have one this year, stick some snowflakes to your window – you can make them or order them easily online and it’ll always look like the snow is falling!

Christmas scene on your windowsill

Having little Christmas figures on your windowsill is a great alternative if you don’t want something directly on your windows. There are loads of fun Santas or reindeers that light up and move. Everyone will still get to appreciate the festive fun and it’ll be a great addition to your living space.

Hang spare tree decorations

You always end up accumulating way too many decorations, so you’re bound to have some spare. Drape them on your window to add a festive element to the front of your home… don’t forget upstairs too!

Tie a piece of string across your window, then loop the baubles through to give a gorgeous dramatic effect. Or for a more homely look, make or buy Christmas bunting and put it up in the same way.

Decorating your windows at Christmas
