How to insulate my conservatory

We know for so many homeowners in South Wales, their conservatories have been a sanctuary over lockdown. Since we’ve had to spend more time at home, having a conservatory has meant we’ve been able to separate spaces for families, whether it’s a lockdown bar, a work from home office, or a play area for the little ones.

But for some of us, the thought of a cold winter is looming. If you have an older conservatory, you might find that your conservatory is too cold to use in the winter. All hope is not lost though! There’s things to insulate your conservatory to make sure it’s warm in the winter and cosy for Christmas!

Does my conservatory need better insulation?

There are a few ways to know your conservatory is poorly insulated, aside from it being really cold in the winter.

One way is to check for cold spots. Try holding your hand around 30cm from the windows in your conservatory and moving it around until you feel a draught.

You can also light a candle or long match, blow out the flame and watch to see where the smoke goes. If it travels to a certain part of your window, you’ll know where the cold spots are. You can also try this with an incense stick.

Another way to check if you need to insulate your conservatory is to check for condensation inside. Condensation inside your conservatory could indicate cold spots and poor ventilation.

Ideas of how to insulate your conservatory

Top of the list is replacing your conservatory roof. Technology has advanced massively over the years, and changing to a solid roof will act as an extra level of insulation and enhance thermal performance.

Solid conservatory roofs offer a layer of protection from the cold outside, and even help to eradicate the deafening sound of rain falling on tired, old polycarbonate roofs.

You can pick your replacement solid conservatory roof from a range of colours – giving yourself the look of a brand new conservatory without the hassle of replacing the whole thing!

Another way to improve the insulation of your conservatory is to upgrade the windows and doors. It might be the case that there are cold spots and draughts because of a few windows. If so, we can upgrade them to the latest in PVCu technology.

It’s really important that the door connecting your home and garden is energy efficient and well insulated. If it’s not, it could be responsible for some of the poor insulation inside your conservatory.

Depending on the space you have, we can replace the door in your conservatory with a new single or double door. The new PVCu door will have been made to the latest standards for both insulation and security, and will drastically improve the insulation in your conservatory.
